be a nice person

smile
don’t be a dick if they mess something up, just tell them politely
even if you’re totally self-serving and don’t care about being nice trust me you get better service when you’re not an asshole
I want to say especially coffee places.
Like, we’re all tired and grumpy in the morning but when you’re nice it makes the morning easier.
Working for five years at one I can assure you that yelling at us and cursing doesn’t make anyone go faster.
I always made note to apologize for the wait if there was a holdup. Yelling stuff won’t bring the time back.
So just be nice we’re all doing the best we can!

Preach! I will go out of my way to help nice customers with complicated/difficult requests, but rude customers with simple requests are likely to get a “well gosh, my scanner says we don’t have any left in the back” from me.
